It was a hot day in Maine, and we set off for a short jaunt through the forest to a beach on the Sundew Trail. Forest for shade, beach for putting toes in cold water. I’d nearly had a nervous breakdown the previous day when it was UNBEARABLY HOT and our rental house didn’t have air conditioning, and Dar was studiously trying to avoid enduring another temper tantrum.

It’s relatively flat, yet narrow and treacherously rocky .. when you’re carrying a camp cot bearing a stranger’s elderly German Shepherd whose hips have given out.

You know, normal vacation day.
